7th Annual 2009 New Jersey Flower & Garden Show

 RAINWATER HARVESTING

GROUNDS KEEPER, Inc. will be showcasing a display garden highlighting RAINWATER HARVESTING at the 7th Annual New Jersey Flower & Garden Show being held from Thursday, February 12th through Sunday the 15th, 2009, at the New Jersey Convention Center in Edison, New Jersey. This year's garden theme is...

It's A Colorful World!

...At the New Jersey Flower & Garden Show, "expect rivers of color and fragrance in beautiful display gardens, sit in on seminars and shop 'til you drop in the Great Garden Marketplace". You can visit www.MacEvents.com for discounted tickets, show times and additional information.

GROUNDS KEEPER is excited to showcase this eco-friendly outdoor garden room emphasizing the capturing of rainwater for future use in our gardens. Our rainwater harvesting system and pondless water feature, along with our bubbling urn sitting on permeable pavers will both be a delight to not only see and hear, but to learn how they work. The beauty of our unique container garden creates a wonderful sense of enclosure for relaxing and entertaining. As you stroll through our “room”, we hope you enjoy our carefully selected plant material as much as we do. The “exotics”, some of which are surprisingly hardy plants, can be enjoyed in all of our outdoor spaces with the right attention to their needs.

Our staff is looking forward to your visit and any questions you have about the small efforts we can all make in conserving water in the garden.  For more information or to purchase tickets, you can go online at www.MacEvents.com.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me directly at GroundsKeeperInc1973@msn.com.  We have $2 discount coupons for admittance to the Flower Show available at the store right on the counter.

Bring Your Knowledge to the Public

Roslyn helps people bring up their energy to reach and achieve their goals.

You enjoy what you do and you are knowledgeable but it takes planning and persistence to set up seminars or to teach a class on the subject. If your work is out of step with the times, how can you come up with a topic to fit in with the public’s present needs? A good way to research this is first keep up with the interesting and informative sections of the New York Times and / or the Wall Street Journal. You may be surprised at the ideas that you get when you least expect it. Include the Book Section in the Times and visit the book stores to see what is selling. Also listen to Public Radio rather than main stream. They approach subjects to inform rather than abrasively throwing opinions in your face.

Are you familiar with the people in your field who give seminars? Find out who they are and listen to them or go see them in person. There may be aspects of what you hear from them that is in opposition to you. This will give you a firm stand for positive affirmation of your own beliefs. You may admire something of theirs that you could incorporate in your own way.

Check out your community for avenues to share your expertise. Here are some suggestions: county libraries offering informational series to the public, colleges looking for guest speakers on a wide variety of topics to enhance the classroom setting, high schools planning career days, vocational schools, adult education programs, senior citizen organizations and Parent Teachers Organizations. Join and attend your local Chamber of Commerce.

Ask your closest friends and associates to:

Point out what they like most about you.

What words you use to excess.

What makes them want to talk to you.

Wear colors that are not bright and offensive.

Wear cool colors; blue, violet or green and pastel and neutral shades.

Organize your work and place phrases on cards to prompt you. Leave plenty of time to set up your work and breathe before your scheduled talk. I always get to the location at least a half hour in advance.

If you dress too conservatively add a special pin, earrings or scarf. Use that as your signature just as Bella Abzug always wore a hat. For men - choose a pastel colored shirt that suits you. Ties are too formal but a sport jacket shows warmth and class.

The most important thing is to know your strengths, learn to look at yourself objectively, be willing to change, and don’t be afraid to be yourself.

It will take time to get used to an audience. Have patience with yourself. You will get better each time you present your work.

As you can see, you just need to start, notice the changes and bend with them. You will get a few surprises along the way. Enjoy the journey!

TWIST-N-SHOUT!!

PRIVATE PARTY CLUB FOR KIDS, TEENS AND ADULTS

www.twistnshoutparties.com

Starting in the 60's and through the 70'sand 80's I played guitar and sang in several garage, bar, disco and wedding bands - I always wished that I could make a career out of music in some way. I came close several times, but never got that "break". Somehow, I knew that music would always be a part of my life.

The concept for Twist-n-Shout!! Party Club began in 1996. Both my wife, Theresa, and I were weekend entertainers, with regular day jobs. After several years of entertaining at weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, and social occasions, and then with children of our own, we realized that there was a need for quality children's entertainment in Monmouth/Middlesex County.

We placed a classified ad in the local papers, and began entertaining at kids birthday parties in clients homes, backyards, restaurants and small halls. Response to that small ad was amazing, and we still have it running!

Shortly thereafter, our clients made us aware that they needed a place they could go to have their kids parties. They didn't want the trouble of setup, cleanup, and all the other details. Having entertained at many homes and facilities in the area, we knew the demographics were right for this venture. So, in 1997 we opened our first party room in Manalapan.

The financial and regulatory hurdles we had to overcome came as a surprise, and were almost enough to kill the whole idea, but we persevered, and opened.

In 1998, we again faced a nearly devastating situation when Theresa contracted Lyme disease. She had been handling all the administrative, creative, sales and marketing duties, and for months she could not function. I assumed her duties, and attempted to run the entire business myself. At first, it looked like we would lose the business, but with the help of prayer, our family, friends, suppliers, and clients, I was able to regain control. We were "behind the eight ball" but slowly we emerged as a viable business and a stronger family.

As our business grew over the next several years, my son became our "tech wizard" (he built our first website at age 13), and a Twist-n-Shout!! DJ/MC in his own rite. Our 10 year old daughter has shown a wonderful affinity for this business as well. I left my day job to devote all of my efforts to
 Twist-n-Shout!!

In 2004, we moved our business into larger quarters, and became Twist-n-Shout!! Party Club. Operating with about 3000 square feet, we attract larger kid's parties, teen and adult parties and banquets - so our business has grown vertically as well as horizontally. The internet has become a key component in our growth.

They say that everything happens for a reason, and you must hold on to your dreams. Theresa and I always loved music and children, and we both dreamed we would build our lives around them. So I became the owner/operator of a successful children's party business, and Theresa recovered and went on to attain a Masters in Education. She is now nearing her Ph.D. and lives her dream of working with children as a teacher. She continues to be key in the marketing, sales and creative efforts of
Twist-n-Shout!!

If you are reading this, you can only imagine the kind of fun party we throw...tell your friends, and call us to make your next celebration a real BLAST!!
